Israel, PT: Israel Defense Forces target militant sites in Gaza Strip Feb. 2 following earlier rocket fire, Feb. 1 /update 1

Israel Defense Forces launch retaliatory airstrikes against locations in Gaza Strip Feb. 2. Further cross-border violence possible.

Warning

Event

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched retaliatory airstrikes against reported weapons manufacturing sites belonging to the Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip, Feb. 2. The action came following a projectile fire that was launched toward Sderot and activated rocket sirens in southern Israel late Feb. 1. There have been no immediate reports of casualties as a result of the IDF airstrikes.

Heightened security measures are likely in the Southern District over the coming hours. Gaza-based militants may fire additional rockets at communities in southern Israel over the coming days; precautionary measures, such as evacuations, are possible in affected areas.

Advice

Monitor local media and abide by security forces' directives. If incoming mortar rounds or rockets are reported or warning sirens sound in the general vicinity, report to the nearest bomb shelter and await further instructions from authorities. If there is no shelter nearby, stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement.
