US: Authorities deploy additional security, close roads in Phoenix and Glendale, Arizona, through Feb. 13, due to the Super Bowl

Authorities have boosted security in Phoenix and Glendale in Maricopa County, Arizona, through at least Feb. 13 as part of the preparations for the Super Bowl football championship game. The Super Bowl will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale starting at 16:30 Feb. 12. Multiple other events related to the game will occur in Phoenix.

Several federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies will provide security, particularly inside and around event venues. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) authorities have also warned that temporary flight restrictions are likely to be issued in the Phoenix area on Feb. 12.

Authorities have also announced road closures and restrictions for Super Bowl-related events near the following locations in Glendale:

  • 95th Avenue: Closed between Maryland Avenue and Cardinal Way, until 17:00 Feb. 17; northbound right lane to close between Georgia Avenue and Cardinals Way until 08:00 Feb. 12

  • Montebello Avenue: Closed between 91st and 95th Avenues until 08:00 Feb. 12

  • Maryland Avenue: Closed between 95th Avenue and Gray Lot Entrance until 07:00 Feb. 14, and from 99th Avenue to the Loop 101 HOV ramp, 06:00 Feb. 12-03:00 Feb. 13

  • Cardinals Way: Closed from 91st to 95th Avenue 06:00 Feb. 12-03:00 Feb. 13

Transport disruptions and heightened security are also likely through at least early Feb. 13 around areas of Phoenix where Super Bowl-related events will take place, including Hance Park, the Phoenix Convention Center, and Footprint Center.

Announced closures, detours, or other security-related restrictions may be subject to change at any time. Public transportation will likely experience a high volume of passengers and overcrowding, especially Feb. 11-13. Several organizations may hold protests around Super Bowl events Feb. 11-12, but are unlikely to create significant disruptions.

Allow additional time to reach your destinations if operating in Glendale and Phoenix through Feb. 13. Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Confirm appointments in advance.
