Authorities have reinstated a shelter-in-place order and are maintaining the closure of Interstate 10 between Rita Road and Kolb Road in southeast Tucson, Arizona, as of early Feb. 15, after a truck overturned and spilled a load of hazardous nitric acid the afternoon of Feb. 14. The shelter-in-place order affects a 1.6-km (1-mile) radius of the incident, going east to Houghton Road, west to Kolb Road, north to Valencia Road, and south to Voyager Road. Additionally, authorities have advised people near the affected area to turn off heaters and air conditioners until the situation is resolved. Some schools near the impacted area have canceled classes on Feb. 15.

Significant transport disruptions are likely in the area until at least late Feb. 15. Authorities could extend the shelter-in-place on short notice.
