Brunei: National Day events to occur nationwide Feb. 23

Brunei will celebrate its 39th National Day, a nationwide public holiday, Feb. 23. The largest events will occur in Bandar Seri Begawan; program sites include Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien, and possibly Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex. Smaller gatherings will probably occur in other areas nationwide. Government office and business closures are likely Feb. 23.

Authorities will almost certainly heighten security nationwide, especially near event locations, as a precaution. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely at program sites. Petty crime, such as theft and pickpocketing, typically heightens during public holidays.
