A magnitude-5.2 earthquake occurred in west-central Sichuan Province at around 22:46 Feb. 28. The epicenter was about 36 km (22 miles) south of Kangding. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout parts of western and central Sichuan Province. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake, and significant damage is unlikely.
