Explosion at chemical plant in Barcelona leaves one dead March 10; avoid the area

A chemical plant exploded in Barcelona's La Verneda neighborhood on Tuesday, March 10, killing at least one person and leaving several others wounded. The explosion reportedly took place at the Proquibasa chemical plant in the early afternoon (local time), shaking nearby buildings and shattering bus and car windows in the area. The city's TMB transport operator has suspended bus lines in the area. Rescue operations are ongoing as of 16:00 on Tuesday.

A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the incident.
