Liberia: Nationwide opposition protest scheduled for November 16

Nationwide opposition protests to resume from November 16; disruption likely

Warning

Event

Nationwide opposition protests are scheduled to resume from Monday, November 16. The demonstrations organized by the opposition group Council of Patriots (COP) plan to resume the '#SavetheState' protest campaign. The demonstrations are being held throughout urban centers in Liberia to condemn alleged corruption, financial mismanagement, and increasing levels of violence under President George Weah. The COP has not yet announced the specific times or locations of the demonstrations, however, likely location sites include Monrovia's Capitol Hill area.

A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the demonstration site. Clashes between rival protesters as well as police forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Liberia are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, monitor developments, anticipate transportation and business disruptions near protest sites, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
