Protest to be staged in Pristina on July 9 over pending war crimes trial; avoid all gatherings as a precaution

Former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) will gather in Pristina on Thursday, July 9, amid a pending war crimes trial against Kosovo president Hashim Thaci and other former rebel leaders. The KLA members will gather at 12:00 (local time) to denounce the proceedings of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (The Hague, Netherlands). It is not yet clear where the protesters will gather, although popular gathering points include the Skanderbeg and Zahir Pajaziti squares.

A heightened security presence is to be anticipated at all protest sites, along with associated transportation disruptions.

Context

President Thaci and other prominent politicians are charged with crimes allegedly committed during the Kosovo War of Independence in the late 1990s in the former Yugoslavia.
