Informational

Event

Pro-Ukraine activists and political groups plan to rally across Europe, Feb. 24-25, to mark the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion. Demonstrations, vigils, and religious services will be widespread in capital cities and other major centers as part of a worldwide movement. Around 50 events are currently planned in Germany, 90 in Norway, and 30 in the UK. The Ukrainian World Congress has published a comprehensive list here. The largest events are likely to include:

  • France: Place de la Republique, Paris at 18:00, Feb. 24 and at 15:00, Feb. 25
  • Germany: Brandenburg Gate, Berlin at 18:00, Feb. 24
  • Italy: Piazza Repubblica, Rome at 15:00, Feb. 25
  • Netherlands: Dam Square, Amsterdam at 17:00, Feb. 24
  • Norway: Eidsvolls Plass, Oslo at 17:00, Feb. 24
  • Poland: 49 Belwederska Street, Warsaw at 17:30, Feb. 24
  • UK: Russian Embassy, London at 17:30, Feb. 24.

Rallies and other events will occur in numerous other locations, most likely in central squares, and potentially as demonstrations in front of Russian diplomatic missions. Authorities will likely deploy additional police to monitor and facilitate the protests. Security measures and associated road closures will likely cause localized traffic disruptions. Rallies are likely to pass off peacefully. Some counter-protests are possible.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a routine security precaution. Follow local travel and security advice. Allow extra time for travel in affected areas.
