Reports of a rocket attack in Asmara on November 14; further attacks possible in the near term

Critical

Event

Emerging reports state that a rocket attack has taken place in Eritrea's capital city Asmara late Saturday, November 14. The attack, which is suspected to have been carried out by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), has reportedly targeted the Asmara International Airport (ASM) and the Sembel Residential Complex in the south of the city. Around six explosions are said to have been heard, and both targets are reported to have sustained heavy damage, although no casualties have been reported thus far.

Further attacks are possible in the near term. Travel disruptions should also be anticipated in the vicinity of the above attacks, particularly around ASM, as well as a heightened security presence.

Advice

Those in Asmara are advised to shelter in place in anticipation of further attacks, monitor developments in their area of operations, and liaise with appropriate consular authorities.
