The Million Moments for Democracy civil society group has called for a protest in Prague on Tuesday, December 17, following the reopening of a fraud probe into Prime Minister Andrej Babiš use of an EU subsidy. Participants plan to gather from 15:30 (local time) at Wenceslas Square (Václavaké náměstí).

On Thursday, December 19, protesters are also due to meet at 18:00 at the main train station in Liberec.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected around all demonstration sites.

Context

The Million Moments for Democracy student group has held several protests throughout Czech Republic demanding the resignation of several government officials, particularly Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. Activists have called for the prime minister to resign by December 31, 2019. Hundreds of thousands of people participated in protests in June, August, and November 2019.
