The US Geological Survey recorded a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Chukotka (Far Eastern federal district) at approximately 20:38 (local time) on Thursday, January 9. According to the USGS, the quake struck at a depth of 10 km (6 mi). There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties.
