Maldives: Flooding reported in Male December 12

Flooding reported in Male December 12; transportations disruptions ongoing

Significant floods have been reported in Male, notably in the southwest of the city, in the morning (local time) on Wednesday, December 11, following heavy rainfall across the country. According to the Maldives Meteorological Services (MMS), more rain is forecast across the country through at least Sunday, December 15, prompting authorities to advise against all but necessary sea travel between islands.

Transportation and business disruptions are likely over the coming days.

Individuals in the Maldives are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
