Chad: Soldiers repel militant attack in Tibesti region February 19

Soldiers kill more than 50 CCMSR militants following attack on military checkpoint in Tibesti region February 19; heightened security presence expected over the coming days



Members of the Military Command Council for the Salvation of the Republic (CCMSR) militant group reportedly ambushed an army position in Tibesti region on Wednesday, February 19. According to an official statement, soldiers repelled the attack, killing at least 50 militants and wounding 38 others. 

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the affected area over the coming days.


Individuals in Tibesti region are advised to monitor developments to the situation, remain vigilant for militant activity, limit time in areas deemed likely to be targeted in a terrorist attack (e.g. crowded markets, etc.), and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
