Gabon: Unions announce general strikes January 23-27

Public and private sector unions announce general strikes against labor code review January 23-27; significant disruptions expected

On Thursday, January 16, the Union Coalition's (Coalition des travailleurs du secteur pétrolier, des mines, de l'eau et de l'électricité) spokesman, announced that a so-called ''warning" general strike will take place across the country from 00:01 (local time) on Thursday, January 23, through Monday, January 27, at midnight. According to the spokesman, the strike will be followed by both private and public employees as a result of the government's decision to review the Gabonese labor code.

Significant disruptions are to be anticipated throughout the country and associated protests are also possible.
