Turkey: Weather warning issued for Antalya province December 10

Meteorological authorities issue red weather warning for Antalya province December 10; flooding and transportation disruptions expected

Warning

Event

The General Directorate of Meteorology announced that a red weather warning will be in effect for Antalya province between Wednesday morning (local time), December 11, and Thursday afternoon, December 12. A storm is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding to the region, particularly Serik, Kemer, Kumluca and Finike districts.

Residual transportation and business disruptions, including hazardous driving conditions, are expected over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals present in Antalya province should confirm road conditions before heading out, avoid areas directly hit by flooding, and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities or their home governments. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded. Be aware that the risk of contracting water- and mosquito-borne diseases tends to rise after periods of heavy rainfall.
