Turkiye: Planned power outages to affect 18 districts in Istanbul through early evening of April 22
Maintenance-related power outages to impact parts of Istanbul, Turkiye, through much of April 22. Business, transport disruptions likely.
Utility provider Bogazici Elektrik Dagitim A.S. (BEDAS) will initiate a series of planned power outages in 18 of Istanbul's districts late April 21 to facilitate scheduled maintenance. The outages will begin at 23:30 April 21 and continue until at least 17:00 April 22. Exact start times and durations will vary by city district, with most blackouts lasting between 4-8 hours. The affected districts are: Avcilar, Bagcilar, Bahcelievler, Basaksehir, Besiktas, Beylikduzu, Catalca, Esenler, Esenyurt, Eyupsultan, Fatih, Gaziosmanpasa, Gungoren, Kucukcesmece, Sariyer, Silivri, Sultangazi, and Sisli.
Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.
Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Ensure that generators are functional if operating in affected areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working, including after power resumes.
