Turkiye: Additional protests, clashes likely in Tunceli through at least late November following violent demonstration in city Nov. 22
Protests, clashes likely in Tunceli Province, Turkiye, through late November after violent demonstration Nov. 22; increased security likely.
Supporters of the opposition Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) will likely stage additional protests in the city of Tunceli and other urban centers in Tunceli Province through at least late November following violent unrest in the city on Nov. 22. DEM Party supporters gathered for a protest outside the Tunceli Municipality building on the evening of Nov. 22 and clashed with police after the Interior Ministry suspended the DEM Party mayor of Tunceli for being convicted on terrorism charges.
Previous removals of local government officials in southeastern Turkiye have prompted several days of protest activity and led regional authorities to issue demonstration bans. Nonetheless, further rallies and associated clashes are likely in Tunceli through at least late November.
Potential gathering sites for any future actions include prominent government buildings, public squares, and major thoroughfares. Well-attended rallies will probably attract several hundred to several thousand participants. Authorities will almost certainly monitor any further protests and may use force to disperse unruly crowds. Depending on operational needs, officials could impose additional security-related restrictions, including road blockades. Associated localized business and transport disruptions are likely.
Avoid all demonstrations due to possible violence. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for potential localized business and transport disruptions. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
