Unions representing Air Italy workers announced on Monday, December 9, that they will also organize a 24-hour strike on Friday, December 13. Workers for national carrier Alitalia are already planning to strike on Friday. According to media reports, airport personnel may also participate in the work stoppage. The strikes are scheduled to be held from 00:01 until 23:59 (local time).
Significant flight disruptions, including delays, modified timetables, and cancelations, are possible if the strike is held.
Aviation workers held a nationwide four-hour strike on November 25, forcing Alitalia to cancel approximately 200 domestic and international flights.
Transportation-related strikes are frequent in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all industrial and social actions.
Potentially impacted travelers are advised to monitor developments to the situation, confirm the status of their flights prior to departure, and to contact their airline for additional information.
