Gabon: Protests expected in three municipalities February 5

Unions to defy government ban and march in three municipalities February 5; heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions expected



The Dynamic Unitary Trade Union Confederation called for simultaneous rallies in multiple municipalities on Wednesday, February 5, despite a government ban, to protest labor code reforms. Demonstrators planned to gathered at 08:00 (local time) in the Libreville, Owendo, and Akanda municipalities and will march until 16:00.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in affected areas over the coming hours. Clashes between protesters and security forces are possible.
