Benin: Women’s march scheduled in Cotonou for October 31

Women’s march scheduled in Cotonou for October 31; anticipate disruptions

Women's rights activists are planning to stage multiple marches in Cotonou on Saturday, October 31. The demonstrations will take place between 09:00 to 12:00 (local time) across Cotonou, with likely locations including Dantokpa, Marche Saint-Michel, Marche de Vedoko, Marche Missebo, Marche Degakon, Marche d'Akassato, and the Friendship Stadium. Additional gatherings are expected in the country's major urban centers, including Porto Novo. Marches of this kind were previously held on Monday, October 26, to demand better assistance to victims of gender-based violence.

A heightened security presence should be anticipated in the vicinity of any protests, along with disruptions to overland travel.

That in-county are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
