Leaders of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a rally in the capital Dhaka on Sunday, November 24, to demand the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. The rally, initially scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 23, was postponed as the BNP only received governmental permission in the morning (local time) of Sunday. The BNP announced they will not seek government permission to hold further rallies, as such rallies may take place on short notice, possibly resulting in clashes between security forces and protesters.
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated in the vicinity of all rallies
Individuals in Dhaka are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
