Iran: Passenger plane crashes in Tehran January 8

A Ukrainian passenger plane reportedly crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) on January 8; details are still emerging



A Ukrainian plane carrying 180 passengers crashed between Parand and Shahriar shortly after taking off from Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) near Tehran on the morning (local time) of Wednesday, January 8. According to Iranian news sources, the plane crashed due to a technical problem; however, an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Initial reports indicate that the flight was operated by Ukrainian Airlines (UIA) and the plane was traveling to Kyiv (Ukraine). As of 07:45 (local time), no casualties have been confirmed and it is unclear if IKA operations have been impacted. Details are still emerging.


Traveling flying IKA are advised to monitor developments to the situation and confirm flight reservations prior to leaving for the airport.
