Italy: Labor union calls for general strike and protest November 29

Labor union plans nationwide general strike and a protest in Taranto on November 29; heightened security presence and associated disruptions expected



The Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) labor union has called for a protest in Taranto and a nationwide general strike on Friday, November 29. USB leaders are calling on all public and private sector workers to participate in the work stoppage. Organizers did not immediately announce a meeting time or location for the Taranto protest.

A heightened security presence and transportation and business disruptions are expected near the protest site and during the strike.


Strike are frequent in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all industrial and social actions.
