France: Orange weather alerts in the south May 30

Orange weather alerts in place in five southern departments as of May 30; thunderstorms and rainfall expected

Warning

Event

The French meteorological agency (Météo France) has issued orange alerts - the second-highest on a four point scale - for five departments in the southern Occitanie region for Tuesday, May 30. The alerts concern Ariège, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Hautes-Pyrénées, and Tarn-et-Garonne departments, where thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast. Localized power outages and transport disruptions (air, rail, road) due to flash flooding or debris blocking roads or tracks may occur.

Advice

Individuals in the above-mentioned areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities.

Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous – 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult – and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs disposed of.
