Warning

Event

A number of aviation sector strikes are set to take place on Friday, May 12, and will likely result in flight disruptions (delays, cancelations, modified schedules) across the country. Airport ground staff will take part, including at Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), Rome-Ciampino (CIA), Turin-Caselle (TRN), and Bologna Guglielmo Marconi (BLQ) international airports. Staff at the national airline Alitalia (including pilots and cabin crew) and Italy-based staff at EasyJet will also be on strike throughout the day. In addition to flight disruptions, increased wait times at check-in, baggage claim/drop-off, and security checkpoints are also possible.

Context

Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all strikes.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights and to contact their airlines for more information.
