Traffic disruptions expected in Oslo and across the country on May 17 due to Constitution Day celebrations

Severe traffic disruptions are expected throughout Oslo and in major cities across the country on Wednesday, May 17, during Norwegian Constitution Day celebrations. Massive congestion in downtown areas is expected due to parades, which traditionally start at 07:00 (local time) and can last all day.
In Oslo, expect traffic disruptions around Akershus Fortress, the June 7 Square (7. juni-plassen), Eidsvoll Square (Eidsvolls plass), Old Aker Church (Gamle Aker kirke), Gamlebyen kirkegård, Royal Palace Park (Slottsparken), Stensparken and Torshovparken, Vår Frelsers Gravlund, and the Norwegian Maritime Museum. The route from Egertorget Square to the Royal Palace will be shut from 09:00 for an orchestral parade. Children’s parades will proceed from Akershus Fortress and Youngstorget Square at 10:00 to Karl Johans gate and from there to the Royal Palace and City Hall Square.
An increased security presence in the aforementioned areas is to be anticipated. Be aware that public offices and the majority of businesses will be closed.
