Belgium: Security controls for international trains
Security controls to be implemented before boarding international trains beginning in July
Event
Beginning in July, travelers boarding international high speed trains - such as Thalys, TGV, or ICE trains - will be subject to security checks - e.g. bag searches - at three Belgian train stations: Antwerp-Central, Brussels-Midi, and Liège-Guillemins. The checks will be implemented in a non-systematic way, i.e. not all passengers will face increased scrutiny. Associated delays and increased waiting times are possible.
Context
Belgian authorities have implemented a series of security measures, including these controls, due to the terrorist threat.
Advice
Individuals traveling internationally via rail are advised to allow for increased waiting times at the affected train stations, always carry proper identification documents, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
