Former police officers protest in Ouagadougou to demand reintegration into national police force June 28

Hundreds of former police officers and supporters gathered in Ouagadougou on Wednesday, June 28, to demand their reintegration into the national police force. The demonstrators gathered at the Place de la Nation and marched towards the national police headquarters. According to a spokesperson for the dismissed police officers, they were unfairly fired following 2011 mutinies launched to denounce managerial problems within the force as well as alleged embezzlement.

Context

A total of 136 policemen were dismissed from the national police force following a series of mutinies in 2011 that took place in nearly all the country.
