India: Moderate rainfall continues in Mumbai June 30-July 1

Moderate rainfall continues to affect Mumbai and its suburbs as of Friday, June 30. Local train and metro services, along with road traffic, have suffered some disruptions over the past few days due to the adverse weather. Minor infrastructural damages has been reported. Some neighborhoods were impacted by minor flash floods over the past few days and the risk of flooding remains high. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rain in isolated places across Maharashtra state through Saturday, July 1.

Context

The monsoon season in the west and southwest lasts from June to September. Torrential rains during this period can, among other things, disrupt transportation and cause significant flooding.
