Heavy rainfall and possible thunderstorms are expected to hit the country beginning on Monday night, June 26, through Saturday, July 1, amid the peak of the seasonal monsoon season in Pakistan.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rainfall and thundershowers are forecast in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir through Friday, June 30, and in lower Sindh and eastern Balochistan between Wednesday, June 28, and Saturday, July 1.
Context
The summer rainy season, or southwest monsoon period, lasts from June through September. Flooding is a common occurrence during this period, often resulting in thousands of people affected and a significant number of fatalities.
Advice
Individuals are advised to monitor the situation, and to adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
