Pakistan: Increased security likely around Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, through late November
Authorities to impose increased security around Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, Pakistan, through late November.
Authorities will likely maintain increased security measures around Jinnah International Airport (KHI) in Karachi through at least late November. These measures come after the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) exploded a tanker truck near the airport at around 23:00 Oct. 6, killing two Chinese nationals, one local, and injuring ten others.
Officials have announced the security measures include the closure of Model Colony road and the placement of barricades and vehicular inspection checkpoints at Stargate and Pehlwan Goth roads. Only air bound traffic are permitted to pass through the roads, with authorities requesting a copy of the travellers ticket at checkpoints. Additional roads in the neighbouring areas of the airport have reportedly been blocked off to ensure safety. Stricter entry requirements have also been implemented, including the banning of private taxi vehicles and their from entering the airport premises. A maximum of four individuals can accompany a passenger to the airport, with only one or two people allowed to enter the airport with the passenger.
Authorities may implemented further enhanced security measures, including mass surveillance and sniffer dogs, if they deem the current measures are not sufficient. Localized transport disruptions are likely around the airport premises.
Confirm travel arrangements if booked to fly via KHI through at least late November. Do not check out of accommodation before confirming onward travel. Maintain a copy of your travel documents. Cooperate with any security personnel. Plan accordingly for potential localized transport and business disruptions. Heed all official instructions and traffic advisories.
