Pakistan: Further sporadic protests likely in parts of Balochistan Province into at least early December /update 1
Additional sporadic rallies likely in parts of Balochistan, Pakistan, into at least early December. Provincewide strike planned Nov. 25.
Local activists will likely continue their series of sporadic demonstrations in parts of Balochistan Province into at least early December to demand that authorities accelerate their search for a minor who was allegedly kidnapped in mid-November. In recent days, activists have blocked several highways between Quetta and northern Balochistan, including Chaman. The blockades have caused significant localized transport disruptions on an intermittent basis, some of which have occurred near the Afghanistan border.
Opposition parties and civil groups have called for a related provincewide strike on Nov. 25, with plans to hold associated demonstrations and highway blockades. Additional demonstrations of varying types, including transport blockages, will likely continue over the coming days. Potential rally venues include prominent government buildings, such as police stations, as well as public squares, press clubs, and thoroughfares. Well-attended gatherings will probably draw thousands of participants, especially in Quetta.
Authorities will likely maintain an increased security presence near such gatherings. Depending on operational needs, officials could implement enhanced security restrictions. Clashes between activists and police are possible. Isolated security incidents cannot be ruled out. Associated localized business and transport disruptions are highly likely.
As a precaution, avoid any demonstrations that materialize. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for potential localized business and transport disruptions. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
