China: Flight delays to be expected until August 2017 due to bad weather

The Chinese Civil Aviation Administration has announced that bad weather will continue to cause flight delays and cancellations through to August 2017 throughout the country. Extreme weather has reportedly been responsible for over 65 per cent of flight delays in June. Eight days of stormy weather alone were responsible for some 2300 flight cancellations and more than 3000 delays at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). Thousands of passengers have reportedly been stranded in airports over the last few weeks resulting in chaos. Many planes have had to circle around Beijing International Airport (PEK) or land in nearby airports.

Bad weather has also been responsible for flight disruptions from Shanghai international airports Hongqiao (SHA) and Pudong (PVG), Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport.
