High air pollution levels in Medellín region July 31; health concerns

Warning

Event

Particularly high levels of air pollution were reported on Monday, July 31, by sensors installed around Medellín, Colombia's second largest city and the capital of Antioquia department.

This air pollution could be hazardous to certain vulnerable groups - e.g. children, seniors, pregnant women, and people suffering from asthma and other respiratory issues. Air pollution can also be harmful to heart health and may make it more likely that some people will have a heart attack or stroke.

The sensors, whose data is publicly accessible, were installed following several days of high levels of air pollution in March.

Advice

Individuals present in the region are advised to keep abreast of the situation and to limit strenuous outdoor activities until pollution rates fall.
