Russia: Suspected terrorists arrested by Russian security forces July 28
Security forces arrest seven individuals in Moscow on July 28 for allegedly organizing attacks
Event
Russian security forces (RSB) arrested seven national citizens from Central Asia on Friday morning, July 28, in Moscow for allegedly masterminding attacks in trains and crowded areas in Saint Petersburg.
Russia has heightened security measures across the country since a terrorist attack was carried out in Saint Petersburg in April, leaving 16 dead and dozens injured. The attacker, a 22 year old from Kyrgyzstan, was also killed in the attack and is said to have belonged to a faction of Al-Qa’ida.
Context
Since the start of its military intervention in Syria, Russia – a strong ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad – has been under increasing threat from Islamic State (IS) terrorist attacks and by the Syrian faction of Al-Qa’ida.
Advice
Due to the underlying terrorist threat in Russia, individuals are advised to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious objects or behavior to the relevant authorities.
