Ghana: Togo removes border restrictions July 31
The Togolese government removes limitations on border crossing hours along the border with Ghana, effective July 31
Event
On Monday, July 31, the Togolese government announced that border crossings between Ghana and Togo will no longer be subject to time restrictions. The decision was made in order to promote the free movement of people and goods. Previously, the Togo-Ghana border crossing was only open for a limited time between the hours of 06:00 to 22:00 (local time).
Context
The decision came following the fourth session of the Joint Cooperation Commission between Togo and Ghana held last week in Accra (Ghana). Togo and Ghana have increased bilateral cooperation in an effort to respond to the concerns of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) regarding the effectiveness of free movement of people and goods in the community area.
Advice
Individuals are advised to take the above information into account. On a separate note, individuals present in the country are advised to be particularly prudent in the northeastern regions where there are periodic outbreaks of violence and occasional curfews.
