Spain: Strike at Barcelona Airport postponed to September 1 /update 3

Negotiations lead to postponement of August 16 strike at Barcelona El-Prat Airport until September 1; rolling partial strikes continue

The union representing security personnel and baggage handlers at Barcelona El-Prat International Airport (BCN) announced on Wednesday, August 9, that it intends to postpone the planned August 16 general strike until September 1 as a gesture of goodwill to aid in negotiations with airport authorities. Meanwhile, rolling strikes by security personnel have continued to cause severe flight disruptions and long queues amid peak tourist season.

As a reminder, the ongoing rolling strikes are taking place until further notice each Friday, Sunday, and Monday during the following periods (local times):

  • 05:30 to 06:30
  • 10:30 to 11:30 
  • 16:30 to 17:30 
  • 18:30 to 19:30

Context

Personnel are protesting long working hours and understaffing as well as demanding a 30 percent pay increase.
