Several people were injured after a train derailed in the Accra suburb of Tesano on Monday, October 23. Authorities believe that the incident was the result of poorly maintained rail tracks.

Context

Ghana has an extremely limited railway network, much of which is single-track line in a state of disrepair. A similar incident occurred on the track in Tesano in February 2015.

It is not advisable to use public transit in Ghana, including the rail network, due to safety concerns.
