Guinea: Underlying risk of kidnapping in Conakry

Event

Unidentified armed men kidnapped the son of a prominent businessman while he was at a restaurant in the Kipé district of the capital Conakry on September 29. The kidnappers have reportedly demanded a payment of USD 20,000 for his release. An investigation is currently ongoing to locate the assailants.

This case of kidnapping underscores the risk of abduction in the capital. A rise in kidnapping-for-ransom cases has been reported over the past two years in Guinea, especially in Conakry
