Warning

Event

Sukkot, a week-long Jewish holiday, will be celebrated October 4-11 in Israel. Although the holiday is a period of vacation, business closures are only expected on the first and last day of the period. Traffic restrictions are expected in major cities, including Jerusalem, along with an increased security presence. The borders with Gaza and the West Bank will be exceptionally closed during the entirety of the holiday, and potentially through October 14. Additionally, three marches are planned to take place in Jerusalem on October 10.

The threat of attacks carried out by Palestinians in Israel or the Palestinian territories may increase.

Context

Sukkot is a week-long festival following Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). Many activities take place during Sukkot, notably the building of a Sukkah (an outdoor wooden shelter).

Advice

Individuals in Israel are advised to report any suspicious activity or objects to the relevant authorities.
