Italy: Public transit strike October 13

Public transportation workers in Rome, Naples, and Treviso are scheduled to strike on Friday, October 13, to denounce deteriorating working conditions.

In Rome, workers from transport companies ATAC and Roma Tpl will take part, likely resulting in widespread disruptions affecting the city’s bus, metro, tram, and rail services, including trains on the Roma-Lido, Roma-Viterbo, and Termini-Centocelle lines. Minimum services will be maintained during rush hours, from 05:30 to 08:30 and 17:00 to 20:00 (local times). Increased road congestion and increased demand for taxis is likely as commuters use alternate means of transportation.

In Naples, EAV personnel will strike, affecting city, suburban, and regional rail lines.  Meanwhile, in Treviso, rail workers will strike from 08:30 to 12:30 and from 15:00 onwards.

Moreover, two national strikes have been announced for Friday, October 27, and Friday, November 10, to denounce increasing liberalism, privatization of the public sector, and wage and social inequalities. Unions have called on all public sector workers to participate in the strikes, which may cause significant rail and air transport disruptions. More information regarding these two national strikes has yet to be released.
