The Portuguese Meteorological Office has placed 50 areas in seven districts under maximum fire alert on Thursday, September 7. Rising temperatures and strong winds, combined with dry conditions, are forecast throughout the day in northern and central areas of the country, as well as parts of the Algarve region, heightening the risk of fire outbreaks.
Context
The deadliest wildfire in Portugal’s history recently hit the country in June, killing 64 people and injuring more than 250 others.
