France: Road traffic congestion in Paris region Nov. 6

As of Monday morning, November 6, heavy traffic congestion has been reported on roads throughout Île-de-France (Paris region) due to an ongoing protest. Market vendors are denouncing the cancelation of the annual Christmas market traditionally held on the Champs-Elysées, which attracts around 15 million people each year. According to local media, vendors have erected roadblocks and are driving their trucks at a reduced speed, causing more than 435 km (270 mi) of traffic jams throughout the region as of 08:30 (local time).

Security forces have been deployed to contain the situation and prevent trucks from entering the Paris ring road; the Porte de la Muette entrance to Paris is closed as of 09:00. Further traffic jams are expected throughout the day, including within the city.
