Fierce winds and heavy rain in central and southern areas; localized flooding, mudslides, and infrastructural damage reported November 9

Warning

Event

According to the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations, southern and central areas of the country have been hit by torrential rain and violent winds, causing localized flooding, mudslides, and infrastructural damage over the past few days. As of Thursday, November 9, further adverse weather conditions are forecast for these areas and the Italian meteorological service has issued an orange weather warning - the second-highest on a three point scale - for the island of Sicily.

Associated transportation disruptions are possible throughout the day.

Advice

Individuals in Italy are advised to keep abreast of the situation via weather reporting outlets and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
