Unity Day celebrations to be held across Russia on November 4; expect increased security and traffic disruptions

Unity Day celebrations will be held across Russia on Saturday, November 4. In Moscow, large events will be held in a number of city parks, namely: Gorky, Victory, Sokolinki, Kuzminki, Lianozovo, Artem Borovik, Babushikinskiy, Perovkiy, Izmaylovsky, Lianozovskiy, Vorontsovo, and Severnoye Tushino. Additional events will take place on Revolution and Tverskaya Squares, and New Arbat Avenue. Expect an enhanced security presence throughout the city, as well associated transportation delays.

Context

Unity Day commemorates a popular uprising that expelled Polish occupying forces from Moscow in 1612. The holiday was established in 2005 by President Vladimir Putin.
