United States: Minor earthquake hits northeast coast Nov. 30

Event

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale struck 11 km (6.8 mi) northeast of Dover, Delaware, at approximately 16:47 (local time) on Thursday, December 8. According to reports, the earthquake was felt as far away as Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City.

No injuries or damages have been reported as of 17:00. However, aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.

Advice

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to take cover if indoors (under a table, under a door frame, in a small bathroom, etc.), to move away from windows, and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger to their life. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, streetlights, etc.; if in a city it may be necessary to duck inside a building (door frame, etc.).
