Police increase security measures in Hyderabad December 5-7 against potential disruptions in the area on the 25th anniversary of the destruction of the Babri Masjid mosque

Local media sources reported that police in Hyderabad have increased security measures in the city from Tuesday, December 5, through Thursday, December 7. The new measures have been put in place as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstrations in relation to the 25th anniversary of the destruction of the Babri Masjid mosque in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, additional police officers have been deployed in the city, and officers will be conducting regular vehicle checks in the Old City area. The US Embassy in New Delhi said that the measures will remain in place from 06:00 (local time) on December 5 until 06:00 December 7. However, the US Embassy has not received any specific or credible threats regarding potential demonstrations.
Context
The Babri Masjid mosque was built in the 16th century in the city of Ayodhya. It was one of the largest mosques in Uttar Pradesh state before it was demolished by Hindu nationalist groups on December 6, 1992. The incident caused riots throughout the country, resulting in around 2000 deaths.
