Various aviation sector strikes in Italy on Friday, January 19; flight disruptions likely

Warning

Event

Various aviation sector strikes are set to take place on Friday, January 19. Air traffic controllers at Pescara-Abruzzo (PSR), Orio al Serio-Caravaggio (BGY), and Bari-Karol Wojtyła (BRI) international airports will be on strike between 13:00 and 17:00 pm (local time). Furthermore, ground staff at airports nationwide will strike for the entire day, along with personnel at the airlines Alitalia and Vueling.

Flight delays and cancelations are likely during and following the strikes, along with increased waiting times at check-in, baggage drop-off/claim, and security checkpoints at airports.

Context

Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all strikes.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights and to arrive at the airport earlier than normal in anticipation of increased waiting times.
