A 7.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Peru early on Sunday, January 14 prompted the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center to briefly issue a tsunami warning for Peru's coastal areas, which was shortly rescinded. The epicenter of the earthquake was 42 km (26 mi) south-southwest of Acari.

There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties.
